Friends and family of Pasadena native Julie Michelle Nushawg, 26, are coming together in support of her daughter, De'Layah in the days after the early morning crash after her driver attempted to avoid a traffic stop early in the morning of Monday, May 6.
Anne Arundel County Police Department investigators say that Trayquan McKesson lost control of a Lexus IS 350, failed to negotiate a curve and struck a vacant home.
Nushawg was pronounced dead at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center after the crash, and five others were rushed to area hospitals.
In the days following her death, the community has rallied around Nushawg's family and her daughter as they face their new reality, one that De'Layah is still grappling with.
"I miss my mom a lot I really wish she was still here," the girl wrote in a note that was posted on a GoFundMe on her family's behalf.
"It’s hard when you loose somebody (you're) close to ... (I'm) just really sad that this happened sometimes I just wish this didn’t happen," she continued. "I cry till I go to sleep sometimes I just (really) wish you were still here ... "Daddy misses you so much (too) ... Sometimes I hold back (my) tears but it’s good to let it out
"I just feel heartbroken that (you're) gone ... I just wanna cry but how I’m feeling is sad and broken, but I (really) miss you ... "I just need you back mommy but love you remember (you're) in my heart."
Since the 26-year-old's sudden death, thousands of dollars have been raised by dozens of donors to assist the family's difficult transition.
"She was a young amazing mother of a 9-year-old daughter named De’Layah whom we’re holding close to our hearts who is not taking the passing of her mother very well," the child's great aunt posted on the fundraiser.
"Due to the circumstances of her passing comes unexpected funeral expenses," she added. "We’d like to give Julie the memorial she deserves to honor her memory and say our last goodbyes."
